Competition Held at Simi Winery, March 25, 2015

Rose CompetitionHealdsburg, CA (March 27, 2015) – The Rosé Competition held at SIMI Winery on March 25th was a huge success, with 192 wines entered from across the county.  Wines from 19 states were judged in the blind competition and 155 medals were awarded in all.

The Best in Class from the “Dry” Rosé Category was won by Martin Ray Vineyards of Santa Rosa, California.  The Best in Class from the “A Little Sweet” Rosé Category was a Rosé from Truett Hurst Winery from Healdsburg, California.

11 prestigious Double Gold Medals were awarded for wines given a Gold Medal by an entire panel of judges.  Double Gold medals for fine Rosé wines included the following wineries:  Atwater Estates from Burdett, New York; Azur Wines from Napa, California; Blakeslee Vineyard Estates from Sherwood, Oregon; Blue Sky Vineyards from Makanda, Illinois; Ellipsis Wine Company from Healdsburg, California; Epiphany from Los Olivos, California; HammerSky Vineyards from Paso Robles, California; J. Rickards Winery from Cloverdale, California; Lange Twins Family Winery from Acampo, California; Martin Ray Winery from Santa Rosa, California (Best in Class – “Dry” Rosé Wine Category) and McPherson Cellars from Lubbock, Texas.  In addition, Truett Hurst Winery from Healdsburg, CA won Best in Class – “A Little Sweet” Category.

Recognizing the importance of this growing Rosé category, this competition was judged by distinguished wine judges including Christopher Sawyer, Denise Gill, Debra Del Fiorentino, Rick, Fraga, Sue Straight, Debra Parker Wong and Ray Johnson.

“As a category, Rosé is on fire and consumers can’t go wrong with the variety of styles that medaled in this competition,” said judge Deborah Parker Wong.

A subsequent event, celebrating the Gold Medal winning Rosé wines will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Simi Winery.  Details for this public tasting event will be announced on the SIMI website soon.
