How a two-woman winemaking team makes history in the Upper Mississippi River Valley.

Elmaro VineyardsTrempealeau, Wis. – July 23, 2015 – As the world of wine becomes part of America’s lifestyle, a family-owned winery in Trempealeau makes its mark this year in the professional winemaking scene. Elmaro Vineyard holds a fistful of awards from international winemaking competitions. Elmaro, owned by Mark and Lynita (Docken) Delaney and their family, Todd and Laura (Delaney) Roessler and Cameron and Megan (Pond) Delaney was started after the family fell in love with Italian wines on a trip in 2004. Since opening the tasting room in 2011, there has been no stopping Elmaro in their quest for great Midwest wines!

This year has topped them all with five gold medals. Three best of class and one Sweepstakes Award in Long Beach California at the Long Beach International Grand Cru!

“We’re stunned and thrilled to have such a great year!” says Mom winemaker, Lynita, who completed the UC Davis online winemaking program. She added, “After such a tough 2014 growing season, having winning wines is especially gratifying”.

The gold medal wines include the 2013 Frontenac Gris Ice Wine (Women’s International Wine Competition), 2014 La Crescent off-dry white wine and 2014 Sweet Cheeks semi-sweet rose (both received Best of Class at the 2015 Wisconsin State Fair Professional Winemaking Competition), 3-Cheers, a red semi-sweet blend (Mid-American International Wine Competition) and last, but on the top of the list Elmaro West Prairie White, a semi-sweet white wine, which also won the Sweepstakes! Sweepstakes means the top honor for a wine at the Long Beach Grand Cru. The Long Beach, California competition has entries from across the US and around the world.

Laura and Lynita pair well as a winemaking team: Laura is a graduate of UW-Madison in Bio-Chemistry and Lynita has a 40-year career as a Wisconsin Licensed Master Plumber. Together they’re looking forward to work “the crush” through bottling of the 2015 vintage. And in the words of Laura, “It looks like it’s going to be one of Wisconsin’s best vintages we’ve seen.”
