Lula CellarsPHILO, CA – (August 27, 2015) – Lula Cellars (www.lulacellars.com), located in Anderson Valley – Mendocino County’s premier Pinot Noir region – is a limited production, ultra-premium winery known for producing world-class Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Dry Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a Rosato (a blend of Pinot Noir and Tempranillo varietals). This month, winemaker Jeff Hansen is pleased to announce the release of the 2013 Zinfandel, as well as the winery’s participation in Winesong (www.winesong.org), a charity auction and food and wine tasting event taking place on the Mendocino Coast on September 12, 2015. In further exciting news, Lula Cellars recently won three medals at the Mendocino Wine Competition (www.mendowine.com), including a Double Gold for the 2012 Mendocino Pinot Noir.

“We are extremely proud of winning a Double Gold award for our 2012 Mendocino Pinot Noir,” states Hansen. “Out of the 251 wine entries at the competition, only 12 Double Golds were awarded. We are beyond thrilled to be one of them, and honored to be in such great company with our fellow vintners in the region.”

In addition to winning a Double Gold for its Pinot Noir, Lula Cellars was awarded two Silver medals; one for the 2014 Rosato and another for the 2012 Costa Vineyard Pinot Noir. The Mendocino Wine Competition is one of the oldest wine judgings in the state, and is open to all wines crafted from Mendocino County grapes. Attendees will savor wines from world-class wineries from Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa, and beyond, and nosh on small bites from some of Mendocino County’s finest food purveyors, all while strolling the lush gardens and enjoying musical delights from various performing artists. Tickets to the Winesong Wine & Food Tasting begin at $125 per person and can be purchased visiting www.winesong.org.

Lastly, Lula Cellars recently released the second vintage of its Zinfandel. The grapes used to produce this 2013 Zinfandel are grown at nearly 2,500-foot elevation with a six-mile proximity to the coast, providing ideal warm days and cool nights during the growing season. The vines are dry-farmed, meaning the only water they receive comes from winter rainfall, which is the secret to growing world-class Zinfandel grapes. The wine, of which only 325 cases were produced, offers currant and jammy blackberry aromas with traces of herbs and spice. The finish is lush and dense, yet full of brightness and vitality. True to its mountain origins, the wine is dark, rich and full-bodied. This 2013 Zinfandel makes a perfect companion to lamb chops, duck breast, and grilled ribs and sausages. It retails for $29 per bottle and can be purchased at the winery’s tasting room or online at www.lulacellars.com.

In October 2014, Lula Cellars debuted its sprawling 22-acre Philo property to the public. Nestled amongst the rolling hills of bucolic Anderson Valley, the property (with a quarter mile of frontage along Hwy 128 in Philo) features a tasting room, a 14-acre Pinot Noir vineyard, a small-production winemaking facility, and a newly opened 10,000 square foot ‘Events Area’ available for weddings and other private events.

Located at 2800 Guntley Road in Philo (at the corner of Hwy 128 and Guntley Road, next door to Handley Cellars), the pet-friendly tasting room offers stunning views of the surrounding property and the lauded Pinot Noir growing area known as “The Deep End” of Anderson Valley.
