DENVER – April 7, 2016 – Today, Integrated Beverage Group (IBG) announces the appointment of Brett Zimmerman, Master Sommelier, as its Chief Wine Officer. In this position, Zimmerman will ensure the quality of all IBG’s wines, provide wine training to the company’s staff and customers, and identify new opportunities to partner with top winemakers and growers.
Zimmerman discovered his passion for wine while working his way through the University of Colorado, first as a busboy and then a waiter at Boulder’s Laudisio and Flagstaff House; he soon found that he enjoyed the food and beverage industry far more than the summers he spent on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. After receiving his degree in Business Administration, he joined the highly acclaimed Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago as a sommelier. At Trotter’s, Zimmerman found a wine program steeped in the rich tradition of the Court of Master Sommeliers. Working with other Masters, he began to expand his knowledge and appreciation of fine wine. He continued this education after relocating to San Francisco to serve as sommelier for celebrated restaurant Aqua, before ultimately deciding to return to his native state and open his own restaurant, Mateo.
A popular Provençal-style restaurant, Mateo flourished under Zimmerman’s leadership. After three years, he left the restaurant business in order to focus on his true passion – fine wine – taking a position as Colorado’s General Manager of the American Fine Wine Division of Southern Wine and Spirits. This dedication to his craft culminated in the spring of 2007, when Zimmerman successfully passed his Masters Examination and earned the highly coveted distinction of Master Sommelier. In addition to acting as Chief Wine Officer at IBG, Zimmerman also owns the Boulder Wine Merchant.
“We’re thrilled to add Brett, his extensive wine knowledge and his advanced palette to our team,” said IBG President, Ari Walker. “Brett gives the final nod on all our wines prior to bottling. If a wine does not meet his high standards, we won’t bottle it – period.”
“I’m pleased to be joining the Integrated Beverage Group team,” said Zimmerman. “With its collection of top wines, including Chime®, Cara Mia,® Reaper® and Rascal®, and exciting things in the pipeline, I am enthusiastic about working with our great winemakers to put world class wine in the bottle.”
