Lieb Cellars Sauvignon BlancCUTCHOGUE, NEW YORK – April 14, 2016 – Lieb Cellars, a premier producer of estate-grown wines on the North Fork of Long Island, is pleased to announce the introduction of their first ever single varietal Sauvignon Blanc.  Their 2015 Lieb Cellars Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is set to be released in their tasting room on Sunday, April 24th. The wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and will retail for $26/bottle.

According to Lieb Cellars’ General Manager and certified sommelier, Ami Opisso, Lieb has 5 acres of Sauvignon Blanc planted, but up until last year, the grapes were being used exclusively in their Bridge Lane series as part of their White Blend.  “Last spring, when our team sat down to start planning out our 2015 vintage, the overwhelming consensus in the room was that despite our production limitations, it was time to try our hand at a Sauvignon Blanc,” explained Opisso.  “We’d only be able to make about 200 cases but agreed it’d be worth the effort.  We’re a group of enthusiastic Sauv Blanc drinkers and knew we had all the elements for a great one – a cool climate, awesome fruit and a winemaking style that perfectly suits Sauvignon Blanc.”

“Our Sauvignon Blanc is clean, bright and fruit-forward,” says Lieb’s veteran winemaker, Russell Hearn. “It’s a vibrant, pure expression of the grape with notes of citrus, grapefruit, gooseberry and a touch of minerality.  I did very little to this wine except bottle it.”

‘Clean and bright’ is a style that’s right in Hearn’s wheelhouse, as he’s been crafting Lieb’s popular, critically-acclaimed Pinot Blanc in this style since 1999.   (Their 2013 Reserve Pinot Blanc was named a “top 12 wine in America” last year by WSJwine by the Wall Street Journal.)

Lieb will be hosting a reception to celebrate the release of the wine on Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 2:00-5:00pm at their Cutchogue tasting room.  Complimentary tastes of the wine will be offered and a local purveyor of fresh smoked fish will be on hand serving up tasty bites.  Open to the public, no RSVP necessary.

Staring April 24th, the wine will also be available for purchase on Lieb’s website (liebcellars.com).
