Art Series Continues With Latest Figurative Works
August 3, 2016, Sausalito, CA – On Friday, August 19th, Madrigal Family Winery’s Sausalito Tasting Salon & Gallery will open “Electric Colors”, the latest exhibit in its Bay Area Art and Wine series. The exhibition features the work of the San Francisco native Mari Aaronsouth and French Expressionist Albert Lichten and is curated by Shiva Pakdel. An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The exhibit is on view from August 18 to September 20.
“Our Madrigal tasting salon and gallery and our artist series openings are becoming gathering spots for the community, the way our winery tasting room and events are up in Calistoga. The opportunity to support local artists and take time out of busy schedules, to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, is what our family has always been about”, remarked Chris Madrigal, Madrigal Family Winery’s Founder & President. “What a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon or evening, connecting with folks with a common interest in a beautiful place.”
Mari Aaronsouth is a Bay Area artist represented in hundreds of private collections in the US, Canada and Mexico. The beautifully flowing motion and electric colors in her abstract, figurative paintings has been featured in shows and galleries throughout California. She has served on Gallery boards and art organizations in Marin and Sonoma Counties and her art has been featured in Bay Area publications and a book cover. Her studio is by the bay in Sausalito, CA.
“As a San Francisco native, the beauty of the ever changing landscape as well as the human figure inspires me. I intend to capture the motion, rhythm and energy around the figure as well as the connection with the landscape. My art is influenced by the bay area figurative abstract movement as well as European modern masters of the 20th century. I hope my art uplifts and inspires others.”
Albert Lichten is influenced by Fauvism, Cubism, and abstraction. He feels close to Matisse, but his main approach is a personal resumption of the Cubist discovery of multidimensionality. Thus the little characters which are represented in his different canvases are remote, but at the same time the canvas structure suggests the feeling they have of the surrounding landscape. The remoteness of his subjects is so pronounced. Lichten’s palette leans on the contrast between muted and vivid colors. Lichten paints mainly with oil, sometimes mixing colors with sand. He paints in sessions, and after each session he lets the canvas rest while he works on another.
