Dundee, Oregon, November 21, 2016: Joe Dobbes, Founder, President and Director of Winemaking at Dobbes Family Estate/Wine by Joe, has been honing his craft for 30 years, having started as an apprentice at some of the world’s finest vineyards in Germany and France, and having spent his winemaking career in the Willamette Valley. On a recent Sunday at his winery, Joe took the opportunity to look back as well as forward, with friends, family and fans of his wine and of all he has contributed to the burgeoning Oregon wine industry. Joe led a tasting of 1988 vintage French Burgundies he’d worked on three decades ago, and then shared current selections from those same houses. Joe also tasted his latest 2015 Viognier, 2014 Amelia Rose Cuvee Pinot Noir and 2012 Symonette Vineyard Pinot Noir, which he said, to a certain extent, reflect the influence of his early years in Europe. Joe concluded the event with a barrel tasting of 2016 Joseph Dobbes 30th Harvest Reserve Pinot Noir, a limited production wine to be released in Fall 2017, which is currently being sold on a futures-basis.

“I have always pushed the limits and pursued new clones, varietals and styles as well as explored new and innovative winemaking technology and means of approaching winemaking; not one to follow the rules,” commented Dobbes to the group. “Passions I developed years ago cooking in my grandmother’s kitchen and working with great winemakers in Europe still inspire me today. This year has been one of both reflection and preparation, as we’ve had what appears to be another terrific vintage in Oregon. We have much to look forward to.”
“Joe’s a great winemaker, crafting a wide range of varietals each year for his labels. He started his own winery back in 2002 and the company’s growth and what he has achieved over a relatively short period is really quite impressive”, added Gretchen Boock, COO of Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe, and the company’s 1st employee. “Our Wine by Joe Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, ‘serious wine without attitude’ are defined as approachable wines that are true to their varietal character and accurate representations of the Oregon terroir. Wines from the Dobbes Family Estate label offer a portfolio of single vineyards as well as regional blends, from the Willamette and Rogue Valleys, and reflect the quality and diversity of Oregon wine, which is being recognized well beyond our borders. It’s an exciting time to be making wine in Oregon.”
