Santa Barbara Vintners Round Out Record-breaking Year of Giving

Santa Barbara VintnersBuellton, Calif. – The Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation capped off a year of record-breaking giving on #GivingTuesday with a donation of $5,000 to Foodbank of Santa Barbara County.  Proceeds from the silent auction at October’s Celebration of Harvest funded the donation which enables the Foodbank to provide 40,000 meals to county residents in their ongoing effort to mitigate food insecurity and end hunger in Santa Barbara County.  Santa Barbara Vintners have raised funds in support of Foodbank of Santa Barbara County since 1989, contributing over $105,000 for Foodbank programs over the years.

For the Santa Barbara winemaking community, 2016 proved to be a banner year for fundraising.  The Vintners Foundation began their 2016 fundraising activities at the biennial Santa Barbara Wine Auction benefiting Direct Relief headquartered in Goleta, raising more than $1.2 Millionwhich provides medical aid locally as well as through-out the world.  Proceeds from the silent auction at the Santa Barbara Vintners Festival in April funded $5,000 in scholarships for local students as well as a gift to Allan Hancock College Enology and Viticulture department. In July, money raised at the Vintners 5 Miler went toward sponsorship of People Helping People’s Vino de Sueños event as well as a grant to help support the Los Alamos After-School Youth Program.

“The generosity of our members and supporters has enabled the Vintners Foundation to achieve big goals this year and set new benchmarks for the future,” explains Vintners Foundation board president, Steve Fennell. “We’ve been able to raise the level of support we are able to provide to organizations that serve every corner Santa Barbara County. From Direct Relief’s Healthy Smiles Program to People Helping People’s support of farm, ranch and vineyard workers or the Foodbank’s Mobile Farmers Market providing fresh produce to families from Carpinteria to Guadalupe, Vintners Foundation contributions make a difference in the lives of Santa Barbara County residents.”
