The PlumpJack Group’s Commitment to Sustainability Continues with its Newest Winery in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District

NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (March 16, 2017) – The PlumpJack Group is pleased to announce that its newest winery, Odette Estate Winery, located in Napa’s famed Stags Leap District, has achieved official status as a certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold business by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This prestigious environmental recognition represents the latest affirmation of The PlumpJack Group’s commitment to sustainability. Odette’s sister property, CADE Estate Winery, was the first winery in the Napa Valley to become LEED Gold certified for the entire property, including the hospitality building, caves, and production facility.

“Achieving LEED Gold certification for Odette Estate is tremendously important to us,” said partner and General Manager John Conover. “Our commitment to sustainability stems from a guiding philosophy of environmental responsibility and a recognition of the importance of preserving our special location and the terroir of the Napa Valley. Implementing green practices at our wineries is not only a smart business decision, but one based on our environmental values and ideals.”

Among its state-of-the-art grape growing and winemaking innovations, Odette Estate is a member of the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) organization and utilizes 100 percent organic farming methods, featuring an 8,500-square-foot planted living roof and 2,500-square-feet of solar panels, generating 30,000 kilowatts of solar power per year. Polycarbonate paneling is used around the building to create light without the use of energy, and shipping containers have been recycled into the winemaker’s office and laboratory, employee break room, and restroom. The winery also plans to incorporate education about sustainability and LEED standards into guest tours and tastings.  The LEED Green Building Program, established by the USGBC, is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.

“LEED is a transformative tool that ensures a building is designed and operating to achieve high performance in key areas of human and environmental health while enhancing the triple bottom line – people, planet and profit,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC. “By prioritizing sustainability, Odette Estate Winery is leading the way in its industry and helping USGBC to realize its vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation.”

Winemaking practices at Odette Estate are led by Jeff Owens, renowned for crafting critically-acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon.  Owen’s inaugural vintage – the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – was the first wine to be bottled under screwcap to receive a 100-point score from wine critic Robert Parker. Owens has been with The PlumpJack Group since 2006, serving as assistant winemaker at CADE Estate Winery prior to becoming winemaker at Odette.

Located at 5998 Silverado Trail in Napa, Odette Estate Winery is open for tastings by appointment seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Odette Estate Winery can be reached by calling (707) 224-7533, emailing tastingroom@odettewinery.com, or visiting www.odetteestate.com.
