New Release Arrives on 10-Year Anniversary of Introduction of Monterey Series

WINDSOR, Calif. (March 20, 2017) – Acclaimed winery La Crema today announced the national launch of its Monterey Pinot Noir Rosé. The newest addition to the La Crema Monterey series, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, the Rosé is a fresh addition to the lineup which also includes La Crema Monterey Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of Head Winemaker Craig McAllister, who was promoted to the position earlier this year and has been instrumental to the growth of the Monterey program. The 2016 Monterey Pinot Noir Rosé illustrates La Crema’s exploration of offerings that showcase the best of cool-climate winemaking. The wine begins shipping nationwide this month.

“Monterey is a dynamic wine region, and our Monterey Rosé represents the diversity the area has to offer,” said McAllister. “It’s lively and refreshing, with sophisticated complexity. This Rosé easily takes you from an afternoon picnic in the sunshine to an aperitif at a dinner party.”

The 2016 Monterey Pinot Noir Rosé hails from one of the world’s best cool-climate appellations, stretching from Monterey Bay across the pastoral coastal valley. The ever-present sea breeze cools the vineyards, allowing the grapes to stay longer on the vine. Crafted in small batches, the grapes were fermented in 100 percent stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the fruitiness and left on lees for a few months prior to blending. The result is a smooth wine that is bright and exotic, the perfect accompaniment to spring dishes like a Watermelon and Shiso Salad.

The release coincides with the 10-year anniversary of McAllister’s arrival to the La Crema winemaking team. A New Zealand native, who now proudly calls California home, McAllister joined La Crema in 2007 after working in vineyards around the world, including Australia, Chile and Cyprus. He started as La Crema’s harvest enologist and worked his way up. He was named head winemaker at the beginning of this year. He’s been a passionate steward of La Crema’s Monterey program throughout his tenure.

La Crema’s Monterey series launched a decade ago. Under McAllister’s guidance, La Crema Monterey Chardonnay and Monterey Pinot Noir have become two of the winery’s most definitive offerings, and iconic representations of the coastal region they represent. La Crema also produces a Pinot Gris from Monterey.
