SONOMA, CALIFORNIA — (July 10, 2017) Bundschu Company President Jeff Bundschu is pleased to announce his recent hire of Bill Batchelor, who will join the management team as Vice President of Winemaking and Operations. Within this role, Bill will be overseeing all day-to-day winemaking operations for the Gundlach BundschuBartholomew Park and Abbot’s Passage brands as well as the facilities upkeep at the Gundlach Bundschu Rhinefarm estate. This key addition to the staff will position the wineries for further success while maintaining the integrity of the Bundschu’s family-owned heritage.

Shandra Knego, COO and CFO of Gundlach Bundschu Winery, said: “As Gundlach Bundschu continues to grow and prosper, a family-owned business like ours has to think strategically about our staffing and costs. With his impressive background in winery operations, Bill is a perfect addition to our team of rock stars.”

Bill began his extensive career in the wine business in 1996 at Preston of Dry Creek and his 20-year journey has taken him from a custom crush facility to becoming a cidermaster to Blackstone Winery where he worked in winemaking and production. He was most recently at Martin Ray and Angeline Wineries as General Manager and Director of Winemaking where he handled winemaking and production planning.

In his free time, Bill enjoys playing soccer, traveling and is a massive fan of live music. Punk rock even.

“There are so few true, family-owned legacy wineries left in Sonoma County, especially one dating back to 1858. They have a story, an historic estate and incredibly diverse vineyards well-situated between Sonoma and Napa. They are also at the forefront of engaging the next generation of wine drinker with an unassuming, modern aesthetic,” says Batchelor. “Working with the incredibly talented and creative team that is already in place, plus the addition of my operational knowledge, I see an opportunity to help guide the Bundschu family into the next phase of their long, respected history of Sonoma County winemaking.”
