Workforce, Technology, and Regulatory Concerns Addressed by Research and Discussion in Takeaways from Four-Day Event

Rohnert Park, California – The Wine Business Institute (WBI) at Sonoma State University (SSU) today released the proceedings from the 10th annual Academy of Wine Business Research (AWBR) conference and education summit, which recently concluded following activities in Sonoma and Napa Counties from July 25 – 28. Critical issues and opportunities for the wine industry and WBI were identified and discussed, including the skills needed for small business development and the leadership of executive entrepreneurs; public policy and the need for university-led research studies to examine critical issues in labor, immigration, land use, and sales and distribution; wine tourism and consumers’ desire for meaningful travel experiences; and the importance of cultural diversity in wine business education.

The proceedings are now available online, and may be accessed by clicking here: http://web.sonoma.edu/sbe/proceedings_awbr.pdf

From Dr. William S. Silver, Dean of the School of Business and Economics:

“Last week, we welcomed colleagues from 13 different countries and cultures to exchange ideas and best practices, and to celebrate our shared global network of scholars and leaders. Inspiring sessions confirmed our ‘true north’ on a range of management education and wine industry issues, and informed our efforts to continuously improve academic programs, research studies, and strategic partnerships that benefit students, communities, and economies in northern California and around the world.”

The WBI is an education and research institute of the School of Business and Economics at SSU. AWBR is an international society of academics and scholars with research focus on economic, social, and management issues related to the global wine industry. WBI has been involved with the annual conference since its founding in 2003, and previously hosted the gathering in 2005.
