Reustle Syrah[San Francisco, CA January 8, 2016] – Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards earned two DOUBLE GOLD medals at San Francisco Chronicle’s 2016 Wine Competition, the largest wine competition of American wines in the world. Both the 2013 Masada Block Syrah and the 2013 Syrah Reserve earned Double Gold medals at this year’s competition, narrowly missing the heralded “Best of Class” recognition. Known as a “Cool Climate Specialist” Stephen Reustle from Roseburg, Oregon, demonstrated continued excellence for his Syrah program. Reustle is not new to major competition honors for his Syrah, last year he earned first place for his 2012 Syrah – Masada Bloc at the 2015 6 Nations Wine Competition for the Best Syrah of the New World.

This year’s San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition also awarded Reustle’s 2013 Riesling, another “Cool Climate” varietal, a GOLD Medal.

Stephen Reustle is gaining a reputation as one of the premier winemakers from Oregon. Producing over a dozen different award-winning varietals from his Umpqua Valley estate vineyards and winery. First planting the vineyard in 2001, Reustle reflects upon decisions he made early in the process as foundational to making “World-Class” wines. “Selections made in the vineyard planning process laid the ground work for world-class wines. Great wines are made in the vineyard,” Reustle continued, “By practicing prudent vineyard management techniques and not forcing things in the winery, we are able to produce world-class wines here in the Umpqua Valley.”

Along with the Double Gold and Gold Medals, Silver medals were awarded to 2013 Pinot Noir “Pishon Bloc”, 2013 Merlot, and his 2014 Grüner Veltliner “Smaradg.” His 2013 Tempranillo “Timnah Bloc” finished with a Bronze. In all, each wine entered into the competition was awarded a medal.

2015 Six Nations Wine Challenge Top Syrah producer, Reustle – Prayer Rock Vineyards™, 2015 Terroir Award Recipient & 2010 Small Winery of the Year named by Riverside International Wine Competition, is 100% estate grown and produced from 40 acres of steep, hillside vineyards in Southern Oregon’s Umpqua Valley. Family owned and operated since 2001, Reustle – Prayer Rock Vineyards annually produces approximately 8,000 cases of more than a dozen different varietals, reserves, and blends. Reustle – Prayer Rock Vineyards boasts hundreds of medals from major international wine competitions, and a year-round public Tasting Room program; including a sit-down wine and appetizer pairing in its old-world style, underground Wine Cave.
