Portland, Ore. (July 18, 2016) – A remarkable event spotlighting Willamette Valley wine, Willamette: The Pinot Noir Barrel Auction will welcome bidders and guests to its second annual occasion on March 31st and April 1, 2017. The weekend gathering will feature rare lots of Oregon Pinot noir crafted by some of the most celebrated winemakers in the Willamette Valley. The wines will be auctioned of to trade members on behalf of the region’s leading trade organization, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA).

“We knew it was tie for the Willamette Valley to have an event of this caliber and the wine world agreed,” said David Adelsheim, co-chair of the auction’s steering committee. “Now we look forward to building on the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural auction and continuing to tell the story of world-class Willamette Valley Pinot.”

The 2017 auction wines will all be from the stunning 2015 vintage―one critics are already dubbing an Oregon classic. The wines are exclusive and will be available to trade buyers in fie, ten or twenty case lots. Over 60 wineries will craft unique wines for the event, from established names like Sokol Blosser and Erath to up-and-comers like Elton Winery and Nicolas-Jay. Three kick-of events showcasing Willamette Valley sub-AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) and the region’s favorite local food purveyors will take place on Friday, March 31st, followed by private tastings and dinners hosted by participating wineries. On Saturday, April 1st, The Allison Inn & Spa will host the main event, the live auction, following a tasting of the exclusive wines and lunch.

Wines of note include the inaugural estate vintage of Pinot noir from Iron Filbert Vineyard by Domaine Roy et Fils and an Eola-Amity Hills Pinot noir made by Isabelle Meunier under the new Elton Winery label. The wines cannot be found anywhere else and represent some of the most esteemed Pinot noir AVAs in the world. Consumers will ultimately be able to access these unique wines at the winning bidders’ various restaurants and bottle shops across the nation.

Last year, the live auction raised $476,000 in proceeds from the wines alone and $630,000 in total. With various winemakers and vineyards on display, no two wines will be exactly alike. But given the area’s ideal growing conditions for its most famous grape and the 50-year history of the craf in Oregon, the wines are guaranteed to be outstanding. Proceeds from the auction benefit the WVWA’s ongoing marketing and branding efforts. For more information, a complete list of participating wineries, and tickets (available in October), please visit www.willamettewines.auction.
