Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation Raises Funds at Sanford Vineyard Run

Santa Barbara V5M racersBUELLTON, CA.– The second annual Vintners 5 Miler this Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Sanford Winery and Vineyards and hosted by the Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation, is on track to exceed last year’s number of registered participants. This unique running event will begin at 9am in front of the winery and cover a five mile course suitable for runners of all abilities. The mixed terrain course, which includes a 350 ft. ascent to a scenic overlook with a commanding view of the Sanford estate vineyards and the majestic Santa Rita Hills, offers plenty of challenge for resolute racers and, new this year, a “wine walk” has been added for those who wish to enjoy a more leisurely stroll through the vineyard.

“Last year’s racers enjoyed the experience in part because, compared to other races, ours has a smaller, more intimate vibe,” explains Sanford winemaker and president of the Vintners Foundation, Steve Fennell. “But we can register as many as 300 runners and walkers and keep the same atmosphere that helped to make this run a positive experience.” Racing event experts from EventPRO have designed the course and will manage the race. After the race, participants are invited to the Finish Line Festival to celebrate the upcoming 2016 harvest with wine tasting from sponsoring wineries Brewer Clifton, Cambria, Casa Dumetz, Foxen, Grassini, Hitching Post, J Wilkes, LUTUM, Nielson, and Sanford. Food will be provided by Hitching Post, Four Seasons, Industrial Eats and Scratch Kitchen. Award presentations, live music and a family friendly kid’s zone round out the Finish Line Festival activities.

The Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation supports local organizations including Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, People Helping People of the Santa Ynez Valley, Direct Relief, Allan Hancock College Enology/Viticulture Program, Arts Outreach of the Santa Ynez Valley, and Santa Barbara Foundation, as well as a scholarship program for students who plan to make careers in the wine industry. Runners and walkers of all ages are eligible to participate in the Vintners 5 Miler.
