Irving, Texas (January 17, 2017) – TEXSOM co-founders and Master Sommeliers James Tidwell and Drew Hendricks today announced that ProWein 2017 will set the stage for the announcement of the 2017 TEXSOM International Wine Awards Judges’ Selection winners. The TEXSOM team will share the news of the award winners at a reception at the Greek national pavilion (HALL 09, STAND 9B 76) on Monday, March 20 at 4pm. The event will be the culmination of a series of award announcements by both Texas Monthly and the TEXSOM social media channels of all the Award-winning wines.

ProWein is the world’s leading trade fair for wine and spirits, and is the largest industry meeting for professionals from viticulture, production, trade and gastronomy. Professionals from around the world gather to meet at ProWein to conduct business, discuss industry trends, and recognize excellence in the world of wine and spirits. The trade fair is recognized particularly for the quality of the visitors that has given ProWein its reputation of being a unique business platform for the wine and spirits trade.

“The TEXSOM International Wine Awards continue to gain recognition internationally as a premier competition for wine,” said Tidwell. “Thanks to Wines of Greece—and its commitment—TEXSOM will be showcasing the International Wine Awards at ProWein. ProWein is an excellent venue for us to relay the mission of TEXSOM, share the announcement of award winners, and show the people of Europe a little Texas and USA hospitality. We are grateful for the enthusiasm we’ve seen from Enterprise Greece, and we thank them for inviting us to participate in the Greek national pavilion at the trade fair.”

Last year, Greek wines showed well at the TEXSOM International Wine Awards, finishing 4th in medals received among the 25 countries entering wines. Enterprise Greece, the Greek government agency responsible for export promotion, is sponsoring some of Greece’s leading wineries at ProWein.

In 2016, the TEXSOM International Wine Awards saw nearly 3,200 entries, judged by more than 70 internationally-renowned, industry influencers from 10 countries. Suggested retail pricing of medal-winning entries range from US $2.99 to US $770.00 with vintages spanning 75 years, with the oldest being 1941. All winners were announced and listed on the Texas Monthly website. Texas Monthly continues to be the presenting sponsor, and has been instrumental in promoting the competition. The 2017 TEXSOM International Wine Awards will take place in February, and entries are on pace to exceed last year’s total.
