Panel Discussion and Dinner at Artesa Winery March 2, 2017
NAPA, CALIFORNIA | February 2, 2017: A panel of four Napa Valley winemakers will be featured at a seated dinner organized by the Napa/Sonoma chapter of Women for WineSense on March 2 at Artesa Winery 1345 Henry Road Napa, CA. Two icons, Cathy Corison and Dawnine Dyer, will share how they refined their approaches to winemaking over the years, while two up-and-coming winemakers, Pauline Lhote and Stacy Vogel, will discuss how they are developing their winemaking philosophies and skills. This will be an informative, interactive and fun conversation between the moderator, Michaela Rodeno, the panelists and the audience. While this event is primarily for Women for WineSense members, guests are welcome to the extent that space is available.
ABOUT WOMEN WINEMAKERS THEN AND NOW EVENT RSVP DETAILS: The evening will begin with a welcome reception at 6:00 and dinner will be served promptly at 6:30. The panel discussion is set to take place from 7:00 – 8:00 with dessert and time to mix and mingle following. Advance registration is required as the venue can accommodate up to 75 attendees. ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
“Women Winemakers – Then & Now” Panelists include:
- Cathy Corison Winemaker and Owner of Corison Winery. Cathy, the first woman Winemaker-Proprietor in the Napa Valley earned a B.A. in Biology from Pomona College in Claremont, CA and an M.S. in Enology from U.C. Davis. Decades of winemaking for others, including Chappellet Vineyard, Staglin Family Winery, Long Meadow Ranch and York Creek Vineyards, left her eager to express her own winemaking voice.
- Dawnine Dyer Winemaker and Owner of Dyer Straits Wine Company. In 1976 Dawnine was hired by the start up Domaine Chandon where she worked closely with the French winemaking team from Moet & Chandon to develop the styles and winemaking techniques that have led to respect for the category of California Sparkling Wines.
- Pauline Lhote Winemaker – Domaine Chandon leads the winemaking team in crafting America’s premier sparkling wines. While earning a National Diploma of winemaking in Reims, Champagne, Pauline gained hands-on experience at Moët & Chandon where she performed maturity controls, winemaking trials and cellar work
- Stacy Vogel – Winemaker, Miner Family Wines. After earning her Master’s Degree from the University of California at Davis’ Viticulture and Enology program, Stacy worked harvests in Burgundy and Australia before returning to the Golden State. She has been with Miner Family Winery since 2008, and was promoted to Winemaker in 2013.
ABOUT THE MODERATOR, MICHAELA RODENO:
After 21 years as its first CEO, Michaela Rodeno retired in mid-2009 from St. Supéry, which has since been sold to Chanel. She had previously been the VP/Marketing for Domaine Chandon, joining at its inception in 1973. She is considered one of the leading women in the California wine industry and a strong advocate for wine related issues. Rodeno co-founded Women for WineSense and served on the boards of California’s Wine Institute and the Napa Valley Vintners. She is a founding director and past chair of the Wine Market Council, served as chairman of the Meritage Association from 1999-2005, and chaired the multi-million dollar Napa Valley Wine Auction twice. She speaks at conferences and guest lectures at Berkeley/Haas, UC Davis, and Stanford. Her memoir, Bubbles to Boardrooms, is a favorite of entrepreneurs and lifelong learners. Michaela lives on the family vineyard in Oakville with her attorney husband Gregory, where they produce very small amounts of Sangiovese under their highly regarded Villa Ragazzi label.
ABOUT WOMEN FOR WINESENSE NAPA SONOMA: Women for WineSense is a not-for-profit organization 501(c)6 formed in 1990, which believes that wine enhances and enriches everyday life.
