Sonoma County VintnersSANTA ROSA, Calif. (February 27, 2017) – After serving five years as President of the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation, Dan Goldfield, partner and winemaker of Dutton-Goldfield Winery, has stepped down as President, transitioning the role to Mark Malpiede, Vice President of Sales & Marketing of Williams Selyem Winery, and a Sonoma County Vintners Board member.

During Mr. Goldfield’s tenure as President he also served as Chairman of the Community Grants Committee and provided significant guidance and leadership strategy in community giving. Mr. Goldfield served on the Sonoma County Vintners Board for the past eight years as well. In 2012, the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend Harvest Wine Auction raised $483,500. By last year, that amount grew almost ten-fold to $4.6 million and was recognized as one of the top three U.S. charitable wine auctions by Wine Spectator magazine. To date, $24 million has been raised to support local Sonoma County charitable organizations including Fund the Future, a program dedicated to increasing children’s literacy rates across the county. Since its inception in 2013, the fund has raised a total of $6.7 million and last year, the Foundation was able to expand its reach further with the support of 14 literacy programs throughout the county.

“It was an honor and a delight to work side by side with Dan Goldfield on the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation and Board. His passion, energy and dedication to being engaged with the communities where we live and work was infectious. His leadership as President of the Foundation made us a more efficient organization and his guidance in managing the transition to the Community Foundation was a game changer.” said Caroline Shaw, President of the Sonoma County Vintners Board of Directors.

In addition to the expanded reach of the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend’s philanthropy, one of the most important accomplishments during Mr. Goldfield’s tenure was facilitating the 2016 partnership of Sonoma Wine Country Weekend with the Community Foundation Sonoma County. Community Foundation Sonoma County helps donors fulfill their philanthropic dreams and this collaboration has leveraged the Community Foundation’s non-profit charitable giving expertise with the vision and generosity of the Sonoma County wine industry. As Sonoma Wine Country Weekend continues to grow, the philanthropic impact will multiply and this collaboration ensures the fundraising will have the greatest possible community impact.

Mr. Goldfield has been gratified by the many personal connections he’s made throughout Sonoma County, and the people who are making a difference in the lives of our neighbors every day.

“At the core of the craft of winemaking is appreciation and gratitude for the place and people from which our product springs,” Mr. Goldfield said. “Being involved in our community to help sustain what we love about it is both a great pleasure and a great need. In my 30+ years in the wine business, there’s been nothing more personally satisfying than working with the amazing array of folks who care for others in need, support the children of our county, and work to preserve our gorgeous environment. The people who generously donate, those who work hard to efficiently provide services, and the end recipients are all integral members of our community and all help make Sonoma County one of the great places on earth to live.”

Mr. Malpiede, has been on the Board of the Sonoma County Vintners for two years and has been active in building the increase in funding as part of his service to the organization.

“I have been able to witness the amazing passion and dedication Dan Goldfield has brought to both the fundraising for Sonoma County through the work with Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, and the Foundation, Mr. Malpiede said. “Over the four years we have worked together, he has been an amazing mentor and friend. I hope to continue with Dan’s good work and follow the path that he helped forge.”
