San Francisco, CA – The leading crowdfunding platform in AgTech, AgFunder, has announced winners of its Most Innovative US Startups Awards to recognize the companies that are driving the agricultural industry forward including one wine related startup.

Biome Makers, a machine learning AgTech startup, was recognized for its contribution to the wine industry with its technology WineSeq®. This DNA-sequencing based soil testing identifies and analyzes the whole microbiome composition of vineyards to provide actionable information impacting winegrowing and winemaking practices.

Through its extensive database of over 2.4M DNA sequences of microbes, WineSeq can detect and predict problems in vineyards and wine that could affect their health and quality, providing recommendations and insights on improving quality and reducing cost.

WineSeq is already being used by more than 200 wineries spread across 18 countries. WineSeq Club members support microbiological biodiversity research by contributing to the largest global Community for Wine Microbiology and building bridges between science and industry to interact and share knowledge.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top innovators in AgTech by providing tools to improve winemaking from the origin” says Adrian Ferrero, Co-founder & CEO, Biome Makers. The winners were determined by nominations from AgFunder’s global network of over 25,000 people committed to innovative advances in agriculture. Biome Makers was one of the five companies named to the “Most Innovative US Pre-Series A Startups” category and the only one with a focus on wine.
