A Fireside Chat with Linda Murphy and Dr. Liz Thach

(Santa Rosa, CA– March 6, 2017) —  Learn more about the ten most famous vineyards in our own backyard from two celebrated experts.  Friends of the Sonoma County Wine Library will host a reception and discussion on Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 at Harvest Moon Winery in Santa Rosa.  The event is hosted by Friends of the Sonoma County Wine Library and will feature wine writer and author, Linda Murphy, and Dr. Elizabeth Thach, MW, a professor at Sonoma State University and author of  the book, Call of the Vine: Ten Famous Vineyards in Sonoma and Napa. Tickets are $25 for Wine Library members, $35 for non-members, and may be purchased via Eventbrite. Visit friendsofthewinelibrary.org for more information. 

Audience members are encouraged to participate in the discussion in an intimate and informal setting. Wine tasting and light appetizers featuring charcuterie from Valette Restaurant will be included.

Linda Murphy is co-author, with Jancis Robinson MW, of “American Wine: The Ultimate Companion to the Wines and Wineries of United States,” which celebrates winemaking in all 50 states, and Americans’ rapidly growing love of wine. Based in Sonoma County, Linda recently launched her website, www.anhonestdrink.com. She is a regular contributor to Decanter magazine, Sonoma magazine and Food & Wine magazine’s annual Wine Guide. Her writing has also appeared in Sunset, Cooking Light and Food & Wine magazines, Sommelier Journal, Men’s Health, jancisrobinson.com, epicurous.com and elsewhere. She was the managing editor of Sonoma magazine (2013-2016), founding wine section editor of The San Francisco Chronicle (2003-2006), winning two James Beard Awards while there, and managing editor of The New York Times’ WineToday.com website.

Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Thach, MW is the Distinguished Professor of Wine and a Professor of Management at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. Her areas of expertise include Wine Business Strategy, Human Resource Management, and Leadership Development. In addition to teaching, she currently conducts research and consults with multiple wineries and other local businesses. In May of 2011 she was awarded the title of Master of Wine from the Institute of Masters of Wine in London, making her the first female MW on the West Coast and the 7th woman in the US to achieve this honor.  She is an award-winning author who has published over 120 articles and 6 wine books.
