The New Trade Portal – www.RiojaTrade.com – is Designed to Significantly Enhance the Wine Region’s Ability to Connect with Industry Experts, Retailers, Service Professionals and more

NEW YORK (April 19, 2017) – Rioja USA is today introducing a dynamic resource tool for the beverage trade industry and a comprehensive virtual destination that will complement and reinforce the region’s current U.S. program: www.RiojaTrade.com. The Rioja Trade Portal is a first-of-its-kind information resource developed for the wine industry to discover, learn about, obtain tools and connect with various facets of Rioja.

An exclusive epicenter for the trade, the development of the portal was a serious investment by Rioja DOCa in the U.S. market and a natural progression for the campaign. It also symbolizes Rioja’s commitment to strengthen and expand their presence in the region. One of the primary objectives of the Trade Portal is to provide better access to a greater number of on and off-premise accounts, wholesalers, distributors, industry experts and beyond. The Rioja Trade Team will have the ability to expand their current geographic program reach, strengthen and create new relationships.

The Trade Portal will better connect wine brands with their target markets and share information with each other, as well as provide them with deeper support and opportunities to engage with the program directly – no matter their size. The Trade Portal is also a destination for media and passionate members of the community with innovative content, up-to-date information and exciting promotions for Wines from Rioja.

“The more Rioja wines grew in volume and value in the United States, the quicker our team realized the need for a tool like the Rioja Trade Portal. We wanted a way to better serve the entire beverage trade and it was clear that it needed to be done virtually,” said Ana Fabiano, North American Trade Director and Brand Ambassador for Rioja USA. “The development of the Rioja Trade Portal further reinforces a deep commitment to the American trade, as it is of the utmost of importance to the DOCa and our team. RiojaTrade.com is the perfect visual representation of the new era of Rioja, and it truly brings to life why this completely authentic wine region is so special.”

Some of the most exciting features of the www.RiojaTrade.com include:

  • Educational materials, like downloadable maps, Rioja 101 brochures and the Rioja Annual Report
  • An area to easily download and customize exciting new creative templates and signage, as well as ways to order Point of Sale materials
  • Inspiring new video footage of the region and a place to request fresh b-roll
  • A guest blogger section where visitors of the portal can hear directly from iconic Rioja winemakers and trailblazing thought leaders in their own words

In August 2016, Rioja DOCa hired Finn Partners as their agency of record, largely based on their expert digital capabilities and 360-degree integrated approach. It was at that time, significant efforts were dedicated to evolving the campaign digitally. Together with the Rioja USA Trade team, the website was envisioned and then built in-house by Finn Partners.

About the Rioja Consejo Regulador

The Rioja “Control Board” is an institution founded in 1926 with a primary purpose to supervise quality control from vineyard through bottling to promoting the region and defending the interests of the region´s wine sector. The quality controls systems in Rioja are one of the most stringent in the world of wine. Rioja is one of the few that requires that all of its production be bottled at source and is the hallmark region for tradition, trust and quality that has equipped Rioja to attain its current leading position on the market.

Located in north central Spain, Rioja is considered one of the greatest red wine regions in the world. Rioja wines are protected by the oldest Designation of Origin in Spain, officially recognized in 1926. Since 1991, it is the first and one of only two regions in Spain to be awarded the highest category – Calificada where all wines must be bottled at origin.  The institution administers highly sophisticated and stringent quality control in the vineyard and winemaking, from viticulture to bottling – more than 63,500 hectares (approximately 140,850 acres) – yielding 300 million liters of wine annually, of which 90% is red.
