Coveted Five-Case Lot of Single-Vineyard Chardonnay Produced Distinctly for Invitation-Only Event

Sonoma, California — May 15, 2017 A rare, specially-made Chardonnay from Don Sebastiani & Sons, the Sonoma-based, family-owned producer of award-winning wines, spirits, and food products, was featured as “Lot #19” at the April 21st Sonoma County Barrel Auction.

Just five cases of this one-of-a-kind “All in the Family” single-vineyard Chardonnay were produced for the auction, made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown at the Sebastiani family’s Watmaugh Ranch in the Sonoma Valley AVA. This exclusive bottling was personally overseen by winemaker Gloria Mercado-Martín, whose deep experience includes making award-winning Chardonnay for brands such as Beringer Napa Valley.

The 2015 Chardonnay was made from the Hyde-Wente clone—native to Sonoma—and offers aromas of toasted French baguette, blanched almond and Asian pear with flavors of vanilla pie crust, flaky pastry, and hints of hazelnut. The winemaking process included malolactic fermentation and “batonnage” (hand-stirring the wine on its lees), which together yield a silky mid-palate, refreshing minerality, and creamy texture.

The Sebastianis have crafted wine on their family-owned Watmaugh Ranch property in Sonoma Valley for the past 40 years. Located just east of Sonoma’s famed Watmaugh Strawberry patch, in the cool, breezy, southernmost part of the valley bordering the Carneros area, and nestled between two mountain ranges: the Mayacamas Mountains to the east, and the Sonoma Mountains to the west.

“We were thrilled when a panel of distinguished Master Sommeliers included our 2015 ‘All in the

Family’ Watmaugh Ranch Chardonnay in the prestigious Sonoma Barrel Auction,” said Donny Sebastiani, President and CEO of Don Sebastiani &

Sons, and a member of the family’s fourth generation of Sonoma County winemakers. “We’ve been at this for over 100 years and are proud to support the auction and give back to an industry that has sustained four generations of Sebastianis.”

The third annual Sonoma County Barrel Auction on April 21 featured a total of 90 wine lots and raised a record-setting $794,500.
