New 15,000 square foot American Canyon Clubhouse Summer Camp starts on June 18th

June 9, 2018 American Canyon, CA.  The NEW Napa Valley Vintners Clubhouse in American Canyon opened in a private ceremony with over 200 donors, dignitaries, and community leaders. Following a brief ceremony Club Members along with Congressman Mike Thompson, American Canyon Mayor Leon Garcia, and Napa Valley Vintners President Dave Pearson cut the ribbon to officially open the Club.

“Building this Building represents the future,” said Todd Walker, Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley Board President, “The kids we serve will be the future citizens, workforce, and leaders in our community.”

The 15,000 square foot Clubhouse, is expected to serve 300 children each day, features areas dedicated to early childhood education, teens, technology and general education. During the event Club members acted as tour guides explaining the function and activities that will take place in each room.  The clubhouse will benefit not only American Canyon youngsters, but the entire community as it has a kitchen and meeting space available for public use.  The event ended with cake and refreshments in the Trinchero Center, the multiuse space that will be made available to rent for public events outside of program hours.

Though construction on the building is now complete the fundraising effort is ongoing. A combination of increased construction costs as well as the urgent need of the community for recovery funds following last October’s wildfires has left a gap of just over a million dollars that still needs to be raised. During the event it was announced that the Syar Foundation will generously match all future funds raised dollar for dollar up to $150,000.

The new facility in American Canyon was built on the existing Clubhouse site, which is ideally situated on Community Park II and strategically located near American Canyon Middle School, Donaldson Way Elementary School, and the Parks & Recreation Aquatic Center and Gym. The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) nonprofit trade association donated $2 million from Auction Napa Valley proceeds to seed the project.

More information is available and community donations toward the project can be made at www.buildingAC.org.

  1. It’s amazing how people like Mayor Garcia always is seen at the center of taking credit for someone else work. The boys & girls club was founded by Pastor Morris Curry as a result of The Coco Kids and the work of a board (people meeting in the cramped work room of the first city hall building on Elliott) and leadership of Loraine Lovoie who started putting flesh on the bones of the Club. Fran Lemos and Bernice Newell were its first program directors of the club. No mention of these people no plaques commemorating their efforts. But that’s par for the course the history of pioneers mean nothing to people who climb up the ladder on somebody elses back and it means nothing to passing on the legacy to our young and how they came to enjoy the pleasures they inherited.
