Deadline: June 18, 2018

Sonoma, Calif. (June 15, 2018)  — Debra Del Fiorentino, director of the International Women’s Wine Competition, invites all wineries to enter this highly popular wine competition that is judged, and always has been, solely by women.

“This event was started over a decade ago to fill a niche market that no one had tapped into,” says Del Fiorentino, who has directed the competition for more than eight years, and who took over management three years ago as part of Wine Competitions Management & Productions.

Says Del Fiorentino, “Many people ask me why we have a wine competition with a focus solely on women. It’s because the facts are clear: in today’s marketplace, women do most of the regular wine shopping. They’re the ones picking up wine at the store for dinner and even buying it for special occasions. And if a member of the opposite sex wants to know what wine to choose, a sure bet is a winner from the International Women’s Wine Competition.”

Wineries that enter the International Women’s Wine Competition will have their wine carefully assessed by professional wine women who understand women’s tastes in wine. Each panel consists of women wine buyers, winemakers, wine writers and sommeliers.

Wineries should know that wines need not be made by a woman winemaker: wines are accepted by male winemakers, too.

Since taking over the competition in 2015, entries have increased significantly year over year, as wineries recognize the value of having wines validated and scored by women wine professionals. Be included in the increasing number of wines being judged and rated at the important competition.

Medal Winners Benefit Three Ways:

  1. You’ll find out what women like. Expert opinions can boost sales and judges’ decisions may directly influence female wine buyers.
  2. Winners get extra exposure. Judges include wine-based traditional media and social media experts who know how to get the word out about the wines they like.
  3. PR and bragging rights.

Award for Best Woman Winemaker

If your winery has a woman winemaker, be sure to note it at time of entry. Aside from judging wines on their own merit made by both men and women, a special award will be given to the Best Woman Winemaker based on wines made just by women.

About the Women Judges

They include a list of top-notch highly trained professional women in the wine industry and wine media who take their task very seriously. Their influence can have far-reaching effects on wine consumers and their purchases. Find out which wines suit their palates.
