CASTRO VALLEY, CA | July 25, 2018: According to a report published this past June by Wines & Vines Analytics and ShipCompliant by Sovos, direct-to-consumer wine sales increased 12% year over year to $132 million, and wines sold in boxes increased 7% in sales year over year along with cans up 43%. The direct to consumer sales channel continues to show the strongest growth in the wine industry with profit margins averaging 60%. Winery stakeholders are actively investing in new technologies, talent and training to meet consumer demand. Members of the DTC Consultant Network have teamed up to provide hands-on training to winery teams in a roadshow program August 7th at Helwig Winery in Plymouth California and August 8th at Wines & Roses in Lodi California. The Roadshow events feature three members of the DTC Consultant Network in a half-day training program that takes place 8:30 – 12:00. Roadshow training topics include: Tasting Room Customer Service and Conversion Best Practices, Customer Reengagement Strategies that Build Long-Term Loyalty and Tools for Leveraging Consumer Data Analytics & Insights.

The Amador Vintners Association, El Dorado Winery Association and Helwig Winery have partnered to sponsor the August 7th DTC Wine Sales Roadshow and provide training solutions to their respective members. Jack Gorman, Executive Director of the Amador Vintners Association, shares his thoughts on the need for more direct to consumer wine sales education, “as small, family-run wineries face increased pressure and competition in the marketplace having tools to thrive in the direct to consumer segment is vital to their success. As an association, when we are able to bring quality training programs, like those provided by DTC Wine Workshops, directly to our members we know we are able to help them and our region, thrive for years to come”.  Kara Sather, Association Director of the El Dorado Winery Association, is excited to provide continued education to her members. “In today’s rapidly evolving marketplace it is critical that consumer-facing staff are educated with the latest techniques on maximizing DTC profitability for their wineries. We are thrilled with the engaging and robust material Sandra and her team at DTC Wine Workshops provide to our members and even more excited to witness the results in action.”

The Lodi Winegrape Commission has partnered with Wine & Roses Hotel, Restaurant and Spa to sponsor the August 8th Roadshow at Wine & Roses in Lodi. There are now 85 wineries in this wine region offering a variety of visitor experiences as well as an emergence of premium wines.  Stuart Spencer, Executive Director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission, has this to share, “regardless of winery size, direct-to-consumer sales are fundamental to building a sustainable brand and profitable winery. Wine-related tourism is booming in Lodi, and its more critical now than ever before, that we provide an incredible experience and maximize our opportunities. We are delighted to be partnered with DTC Wine Workshops to bring this valuable educational opportunity to our Lodi vintners”.

ABOUT EL DORADO COUNTY WINERY ASSOCIATION:

The El Dorado County sierra foothills range from 1,200 to 3,500 feet and hundreds of microclimates perfect for nearly 50 grape varieties. California’s Gold Rush began in El Dorado County 1848 with James Marshall’s discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill, on the South Fork of the American River in Coloma. As legions of people flocked to California to claim their fortunes, the region’s winemaking industry was born. By 1870, El Dorado County was among the largest wine producers in the state, trailing only Los Angeles and Sonoma counties. Today, the county has more than 2,000 acres of vines, is home to approximately 50 wineries, and produces some of California’s most sophisticated wines. El Dorado was designated an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1983. The Annual Event Calendar can be found at: http://eldoradowines.org/events.php#calendar.
