Three local executives and entire Sonoma County region honored

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (September 6, 2018) – Outstanding wines and innovative leadership abound in Sonoma County, as evidenced by the nominations in the prestigious Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards.  Each year, the magazine recognizes those who have made significant and lasting achievements in the industry, selecting its honorees from around the globe. Finalists for the 2018 awards include three executives from the area, as well as a nod in the regional category.

“We’ve worked hard to elevate awareness about this incredible area, and are proud to see Sonoma County represented in so many categories,” said Michael Haney, Executive Director, Sonoma County Vintners. “Respected by consumers and trade alike, Wine Enthusiast is one of the leading voices in our business. We’re honored our region and board members are recognized as Wine Star nominees.”

Two of the contenders for Wine Industry Executive of the Year hail from the Sonoma County area. Corey Beck is CEO of The Family Coppola and a member of the Sonoma County Vintners Board of Directors, while Caroline Shaw, Executive Vice President at Jackson Family Wines, currently serves as President of the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation. Terry Wheatley, President of Vintage Wine Estates, a Sonoma County Vintners winery member, is in the running for Innovator of the Year.

Sonoma County is a finalist for Wine Region of the Year, the only domestic region on this year’s list. The nomination highlights the area’s diversity, world-class wineries and hospitality destinations.

Winners of the 2018 awards will be announced in December.
