Historic and Popular Alexander Valley Destination Welcomes Wine Lovers to Its New Tasting Room and Hospitality Center

GEYSERVILLE, CA; November 28, 2018 – Family owned, farmed and operated since 1858, the Robert Young Estate Winery has recently opened the Scion House, their new hospitality and tasting center on their 448-acre ranch, 10 minutes north of Healdsburg in the Alexander Valley.

The Scion House honors six generations of the Young family including current family members Fred, Jim, JoAnn and Susan, plus future generations to come. The new building is built on the family’s favorite hilltop overlook with stunning 360-degree vineyard views. Both elegant and inviting, the Scion House offers guests a serene retreat where they can relax in one of several open and private, indoor and outdoor areas for seated tastings and wine experiences.

“We like our guests to feel at home when they come to visit and taste our wines,” says Fred Young, fourth generation and Founder of Robert Young Estate Winery. “We want them to enjoy the views of Alexander Valley, the beauty of the vineyards and the strong character of our wines”.

Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the family’s 160-year history on the ranch while sampling small-lot wines that express the power and balance of the Alexander Valley and the uniqueness of the estate. Offerings include bold Cabernets, sublime Bordeaux blends and rich Chardonnays. The winery also offers limited bottlings of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot.

Beginning in December, visitors can also take part in a range of vineyard and winemaking experiences that will give them a deeper understanding of what it takes to grow and make fine wine. “We like to share our way of life because we know not everyone gets to experience this,” says Susan Young Sheehy, fourth generation family member.

The new Scion House building was designed by Wade Design, a San Anselmo, CA company known for their work on high-end wineries and private estates throughout Northern California. It is located a few hundred yards from the winery at 5102 Red Winery Road, Geyserville, just 10 minutes north of Healdsburg. Tours and tastings will be primarily by appointment, but the winery welcomes drop-in guests through the end of the year. About Robert Young

Robert Young, the 3rd generation to run his family’s historic ranch, was a pioneer farmer and viticulturalist and the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in the Alexander Valley in 1963. In the early 1990’s, Robert and his son Jim Young developed the now extensively planted Chardonnay Clone 17. The family continued to develop their 448 ranches, becoming one of the largest family-owned growers in Alexander Valley, selling fruit to some of California’s most elite wineries. In 1997, Fred Young, with the help of his siblings, furthered the family business by founding the Robert Young Estate Winery. Their goal was to select the top 5% of grapes from their estate vineyards to make world-class Bordeaux Reds and Chardonnay under the Robert Young name. Today, the winery uses micro-viticulture techniques and small-lot winemaking methods to create wines of exceptional character and balance.
