2017 Sonoma Vintage Report

March 7, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

$60 – $90

2017 was a challenging growing year for vintners throughout the North Coast. From this vintage, many questions have come to light: Are the climatic extremes witnessed in 2017 the new normal for winegrowers in Sonoma County?  How did unpredictable weather events affect maturation dynamics?  What are the lasting impacts on wine and berry chemistry in the wake of the horrific firestorms?

As the symposium will break down the previous year’s growing season and take an analytical look at the 2017 vintage in Sonoma County, these questions and more will be discussed at the Vintage Report, including:

  • An in-depth analysis of seasonal elements and challenges faced throughout the 2017 vintage from distinct growing regions around the county.
  • An exploration of innovative technologies that winegrowers can deploy in 2018 to enhance quality and manage yield.
  • Insightful discussions led by practitioners from around the region.
  • A focus on key weather events and how they impacted farming practices, with a look at rainfall/water availability and heat spikes during June and September.
  • A review of the application of wine byproducts and what innovative methods are being used in Sonoma County right now.
  • A showcase of practical solutions for using technology to grow terroir specific wines.

Rob Davis of Jordan Winery will lead this exciting event with the keynote address.  The event will start at 8:30 AM at the Vintners Inn in Santa Rosa on March 7.  Throughout the half day event, scientists and practitioners from across the region will be presenting on their analysis of the 2017 growing year, including Thibaut Scholasch, PhD (Fruition Sciences), Mark Greenspan, PhD (Advanced Viticulture), Nicolas Bernard (Vivelys), Byron Kosuge (Byron Kosuge Consulting), Torey Arvik, PhD (Whole Vine Products) and Eric Herve, PhD (ETS Laboratories).
