Sonoma, CA (October 29, 2013) —Honoring its commitment to education, Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards announces a donation of $15,000 to the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. The funds were raised at the 21st Annual Catalan Festival held in July. Like the winery, the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation was established more than two decades ago. The foundation has been a strong ally to the local schools, supporting over 5,000 children and 10 schools in Sonoma Valley. Gloria Ferrer is proud to help fund the mission of the Foundation and the Sonoma Valley Unified School District to help make sure all students graduate from Sonoma Valley Schools well prepared for college and career.
“We know how critically important it is to nurture our vineyard estate in order for it produce great fruit in the years to come. Our public schools have a similar purpose: to nurture and feed the minds of our local children to achieve new levels of success,” said Geraldine Flatt, Vice President of Human Resources and Retail Operations at Gloria Ferrer. “We believe in the critical importance of successful public schools, and we are thrilled to announce that we have chosen to make the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation our beneficiary for the 2014 Catalan Festival set for July 19 and 20.” As part of an ongoing effort, the winery also donates a portion of the sales of every bottle of their gold-medal winning extra virgin olive oil made from estate grown Catalan and Tuscan olives to the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.
The Catalan Festival was established by the Ferrer family of Barcelona, Spain, to honor the opening of Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards in 1986, the first Catalan-owned winery in California. Since the winery’s opening, over one million national and international guests have visited the estate to tour the winery and taste Gloria Ferrer’s highly acclaimed wines. Gloria Ferrer wines have received over 400 gold medals and over thirty 90+ point ratings from wine publications. Most recently, the winery was named a “Top 100 Winery of the Year” by Wine & Spirits magazine.
