Bordeaux’s Top Winemakers Showcase “En Primeur” 2014 Vintage One Week After Bordeaux’s Own Primeur Week, Alongside 2011 and 2012 Vintages
NEW YORK (March 5, 2015) – Bordeaux winemakers were on pins and needles leading up the first taste of the 2014 vintages: Winter and spring showed promising signs of a great vintage, but a hot summer spelled trouble that only a fine autumn could salvaged. Thankfully, a long Indian summer combined with the deft skills of Bordeaux winemakers resulted in a highly anticipated vintage that will be showcased in the only “en primeur” vintage tasting in the U.S. – Le Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux, which will touch down this April in New York, Dallas (the first time!) and Los Angeles, offering opportunities for wine professionals, media and consumers to taste selections from both Bordeaux’s Left and Right Banks.

The practice of “en primeur” is a trusted method used by the wine industry, particularly among Bordeaux producers, in which critics and consumers are able to both taste and purchase the young vintage while the wine is still in the barrel. Typically, “en primeur” wines are unveiled while only 6-8 months in age, thereby acting as a means for critics to predict and project how successful the harvest was and develop proper tasting notes for each wine. Purchasing “en primeur” vintages can be a sound financial investment for consumers as the wines have not yet fully matured, thereby not priced at full cost.
Formed in 2013 by Dr. Alain Raynaud, Le Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux is an organization that brings together Le Cercle Rive Droite (the Right Bank) and Le Cercle Rive Gauche (the Left Bank) – more than 200 wineries – to showcase the finest Bordeaux wines. “Le Grand Cercle wines are united by a code of practice with obligations ranging from the meticulous care of the grapes during harvest, to the protection of the vineyards and dedication to a minimal carbon footprint and to a continued quest for innovation,” says Dr. Raynaud, who was once named “Bordeaux Maverick” by Decanter Magazine, and owns Château du Parc, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru since 2011.
