Billed as a new Sonoma County Vintners tradition, invited wine trade and iconic Sonoma County vintners came together in a full house today at the Vintners Inn for the inaugural Sonoma County Barrel Auction.
The day opened with introduction and tasting of 71 small lots of unique wines, handcrafted by Sonoma vintners and selected from entries by a panel of expert sommeliers. Bob Paulinski, Master of Wine and BevMo! Senior Vice President of Wine, explains “there were two objectives; one making sure that every lot was up to a standard for an event like this, and the other was to provide insight and commentary about each specific lot.”
After the tasting the crowd was invited into the auction tent where Carolyn Stark, Executive Director of Sonoma County Vintners welcomed everyone, and more wine and food was served before starting the auction.
Stark was thrilled with the event turnout and interest from the trade saying “it is better than we hoped for for a first year event.”
Auctioning began at 1:30 p.m. and by 3 p.m. totaled $461,700. Keep up with the Sonoma County Barrel Auction on Twitter #SoCoBa Here’s some of what’s being said:
