Windsor, Calif., May 21, 2015: Kerry Murphy, founder and CEO of DuMOL has purchased all ownership interests of co-founder Michael Verlander, who is no longer affiliated with DuMOL. Details of the transaction are not available.
According to Mr. Murphy, this purchase will allow him to reward further ownership interest in DuMOL to co-owner and Winemaker of eighteen years, Andy Smith, and initial ownership interest to Director of Sales, Tom Pillsbury. Mr Murphy is delighted to expand Smith and Pillsbury’s roles as he considers them both essential to DuMOL’s future growth and development.
As DuMOL enters its 20th vintage, the company has also expanded its Estate Vineyard holdings with the acquisition of the historic Marshall Ranch in the Green Valley district of western Sonoma County. A continuously operating apple orchard since the 1880s, Marshall Ranch is also contiguous to DuMOL’s three existing high-density Estate vineyard parcels. This hillside property brings even greater focus to their Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir program. It will be planted with a range of rare heritage vine selections in line with DuMOL’s high density farming concept of 3,630 vines per acre in contrast to the 1,244 vines per acre local standard. This vineyard purchase was brokered by Michael Crain Properties of Sonoma.
Furthermore, with the 2014 vintage, DuMOL is excited to offer its first Napa Cabernet Sauvignon wines based on prime vineyard sites in the carefully selected cool climate appellations of Coombsville and Spring Mountain District, to be joined in 2015, by Oakville. These Cabernets will complement DuMOL’s highly regarded Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah wines.
DuMOL will capitalize on Andy Smith’s extensive Napa Cabernet winemaking experience at Paul Hobbs Winery, Gemstone Vineyard and most significantly his fifteen years (1999-2013) as Senior Winemaker at Calistoga’s Larkmead Vineyards, where he conceived and created many outstanding and highly-rated wines including a rare 100 point review from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
