Iconic Family-Owned Winery Offers New Ways to Taste Older Vintages
(Napa, Calif.) June 21, 2018—To celebrate Trefethen Family Vineyards’ 50th anniversary, and launching just in time for summer and harvest season travel to the Napa Valley, the winery is pulling corks on bottles from their cellar and sharing their impressive legacy with guests.
#TBT Tastings (five wines, $25-$35pp): Every Thursday, they are offering a unique spin on the popular #TBT meme and including a taste of an aged selection from a large format bottle in all of their Tasting Flights. Fans should follow Trefethen’s social media handles (IG: @trefethenfamily and Facebook Trefethen Family Vineyards) to get the insider’s scoop on the featured vintage each week. Examples of older wines offered include 1988 and 2001 Chardonnay and 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon, all in 3-liter bottles.
Tastings Flights are held in their Historic Winery, which was originally constructed in 1886. Designed by the leading California winery architect at that time, Hamden McIntyre, the building is an example of a wooden three-story “gravity flow” winery. Following a significant restoration, the Historic Winery re-opened last year, featuring the family’s estate wines ageing in barrel on the first floor and a gorgeous new tasting room on the second floor. Anniversary Tastings (six wines, $75pp) This new experience will be focused exclusively on aged offerings, including three vintages of Chardonnay and three vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. After checking in at the Historic Winery, guests are escorted through beautiful gardens to the Villa, a former family residence. For the Anniversary Tastings, guests are seated around a large table and both entertained and educated as they are led through the flight. This program provides a truly unique opportunity to experience the depth and complexity of the family’s estate-grown wines after years in the bottle. The Anniversary Tasting is semi-private, with a maximum of 10 guests, and only offered once per day at 10:30AM. Advance reservations are required.
