World-Class Winery Team Attends Awards Ceremony in Miami as the First Uruguayan Winery to Earn a Wine Star Award

GARZÓN, Uruguay (January 31, 2019)Bodega Garzón, a boutique winery in the idyllic countryside of Garzón, Uruguay founded by international vintner Alejandro P. Bulgheroni, was honored to attend the coveted Wine Enthusiast Magazine 2018 Wine Star Awards ceremony in Miami, Florida at Eden Roc Hotel, where Bulgheroni took the stage to accept the New World Winery of the Year 2018 for Bodega Garzón, a winery recognized for building an exemplary reputation for Garzón as winemaking region while putting Uruguay on the map in the world of fine wine.

“We are honored and humbled to accept this prestigious award,” said Bulgheroni. “As stewards of this unique piece of land, it has been our great pleasure and responsibility to produce exceptional wines that stay faithful to the representation of its terroir. I am immensely grateful to my family for their unflagging support over the ten years that we have been shaping Bodega Garzón into what it is today.”

Since its debut in 2016, Bodega Garzón has emerged as a state-of-the-art winery whose vibrant, energetic and complex wines bear witness to the ocean’s influence on the estate’s soil. The vine was first planted in a privileged native land close to the Uruguayan’s Atlantic coast and 160 meters above sea level, where wind, climate, and soil provide the perfect combination for a portfolio of wines imprinted with the authentic personality of Garzón terroir, from Albarino to Tannat to the new icon blend, Balasto. Comprising 550 vineyard acres, plantings over ancient ballast soils, and a 205,000 square foot winery located near the tourism towns of Punta del Estate and José Ignacio, Bodega Garzón showcases wines crafted as true expressions of their origins by the talented enologist Alberto Antonini.

“Receiving this award is the perfect end to an incredible year at Bodega Garzón, as we cheered a fantastic 2018 vintage that will be a source of pride always,” said Christian Wylie, managing director of Bodega Garzón.  “But the best is ahead for Bodega Garzón, for the vision and ambition of our talented team will carry this momentum into 2019, as we continue producing world-class wines that position Garzón as an industry leader.”

The Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Award recognizes pioneers who paved the way for others in the wine business. In addition to the recognition it received at the black-tie gala that took place in Miami on Monday, January 29, 2019, Bodega Garzón will be featured in Wine Enthusiast’s special “Best of Year” issue.

In addition to the 2018 Wine Star Award milestone, this year Bodega Garzón is proud to be featured on “It Starts With Wine,” a new documentary series broadcasted by Amazon Prime that travels the globe to follow the world’ best winemakers, growers, producers and personalities as well as prominent chefs and celebrities. The first episode – which premiered on Amazon’s streaming service on January 4th – was filmed primarily at Bodega Garzón’s extraordinary estate and the charming town José Ignacio. Featuring intimate conversations in which famed chef and restaurateur Francis Mallmann and acclaimed winemaker Alberto Antonini share their passions, the episode is a triumph not only for Bodega Garzón Winery but also for all of Uruguay, engaging audiences in the incredible experiences and lifestyle surrounding the country’s vibrant wine culture.
